Holiday Card Series 2017 – Bastel Traum Challenge #59

Hi everyone! And welcome back to  another monthly challenge over at the Bastel Traum Challenge Blog. This is your chance to play along for a chance to win a 15 chf certificate to the Bastel Traum Online Shop (they ship worldwide!) The subject of this month’s challenge, which will run until 15 Dec. 2017 at 8:45 am GMT+2, is Winter/Christmas/Stardust.

This post is a very special one, since it’s a two for one. On the one hand I’m hoping to inspire you to play along in our Christmas-themed monthly challenge over at the Bastel-Traum blog, and on the other hand I’m kicking off my very first Holiday Card Series!

I’m not sure how many holiday cards I’ll be able to bring you this year, or how frequently I shall be able to share a video. But you can be sure I will do my best to bring you at least a bit of crafty inspiration this holiday season, both here and in the Bastel Traum Challenge Blog (where we’ve got a fun surprise for you all in the making. Stay tuned in the month of December!)

This month I’m sharing a very special card with you since, in a way, this card kick-started my online crafty journey. So, without further ado, here it is!

I look forward to all your beautiful Christmas submissions to the Bastel-Traum Challenge and wish you a beautiful autumn day. Until next time!

Newborn Baby Girl Gift (Lawn Fawnatics Challenge #16)

Well hello everyone! And thanks for stopping by. Today is a very happy day, since in a couple of hours I’ll be heading out of the house to meet sweet baby Zoe: my friend A’s newborn baby girl. Some of you may remember that a few months back I created a piece of home decor for my own baby girl. That piece hangs in her bedroom and it puts a smile on my face every time I look at it. So when it came to creating the prefect gift for baby Zoé, I thought of making something similar. And for an extra bit of fun, I am also entering this piece in the latest Lawn Fawnatics Challenge, where we are being challenged to use our oldest Lawn Fawn set (this one came out in 2012!)

A few months back, my friend A decided to start watercolouring for the first time in her life. I was so excited when she told me about this, that I immediately offered to stamp out a few images for her to practice her watercolouring and create something beautiful. She graciously accepted my offer and, a few days later, found herself playing with a few images from the “Flutter By” Set by Lawn Fawn (available in the US / Switzerland).

When she was done watercolouring, she didn’t make much of her images, so I asked her if I could have them back and make something with them. Little did she know that a few months later I would be creating this piece for her newborn baby girl! So, in a way, this is a present from baby Zoe both from me, but also from her own mummy! I can’t wait to hand it over to my dear friend A and see her surprised face! (If she’ll let me, I’ll snap a picture and share it with you soon).

Do you also own this classic Lawn Fawn set? If so, what has been your favourite creation with it? Leave me your links, I’d love to check out your projects and get inspired to create a bit more! I hope you enjoyed today’s home decor project and… until next time!

Heffy Doodle Release 2 Blog Hop!

Well hello Heffy Doodlers! And welcome to Heffy Doodle’s Release 2 Blog Hop. Can I get a “Hoot, hoot?!” This is such an exciting day for the Heffy Doodle family and a dream come true for the people behind this awesome family-run business which has made it this far thanks to your love and support. We love you guys and we LOVE seeing what you create with the products we so enjoy bringing you!

Now, time for some crafty fun! In today’s card I used two awesome stamp sets from Heffy Doodle’s Release 2: “Geology Rocks“, a super original set like no other one out there,  and “Jet Alphabetters“, which is perfect for spelling out personalised sentiments.

Now, since I know you all love Lesley’s card stories, here’s the story behind my card! Although you may have never guessed it from my name, I grew up in Mexico – right next to an active volcano called the “Popocatépetl“. As I child, when leaving my house for school, it wasn’t uncommon to see the top of our volcano peeping out through the clouds. At times it was nothing but a snowy-topped mountain, but every now and then it would get excited and the ashes from its eruptions would reach us where I lived.

A few years back I moved to Europe and married a native English-speaker. When I first took him back home, I proudly pointed out the Popocatépetl to him (not that he could have missed the darn big thing!) and challenged him to repeat the name. To my surprise, he got it right the first time and spent the rest of our time in Mexico showing off about it.

When I asked him how on Earth he could have possibly gotten the name right from the start and managed to remember it, he said: “Easy: it’s called the “Pop-A-Kettle-On!”

Thanks for stopping by. Please make sure to stop by each of our amazing designers’ blogs and leave us a comment for a chance to win some Heffy Doodle goodies.

Bastel Traum Challenge #58 – Teacher Thank You Card Set

Hi everyone! And welcome back to another Bastel Traum Challenge, where you can play along with us for a chance to win a 15 chf to the Bastel Traum Online Shop.

The subject of this month’s challenge is “Thanks” – a perfect theme for autumn and for those of you celebrating Thanksgiving – and so it is that I have created this “Teacher Thank You Card”.

My son started school 6 weeks ago and he’s about to break for a week. He’s taken such big leaps in his writing and general learning that I felt a thank you card for his teacher would be appropriate. I have used a bunch of products from quite a few different cards in this project: a background stamp from MFT; that notebook page stamp, the thank you sentiment stamp and the little star dies from Sunny Studio Stamps; and the pencil die set from Paper Smooches.

I will have a process video and full product details later this week so please check back in a couple of days! In the mean time, make sure to stop by the Bastel Traum Challenge blog for more inspiration from our amazing Design Team. Until next time!

My first ever Halloween card

Do you make Halloween cards? I have never really made Halloween cards in the past, nor have I really celebrated this holiday. However, I have seen such adorable Halloween stamps available this year, I have decided to treat myself to a single Halloween set to make a few cards for my American friends. The lucky chosen one was this cute mini stamp set by Waffle Flower Crafts, called “Boo Stamp Set“, since this bear is one of my favourite stamp characters out there!

The moon was die cut out of a shimmery cream paper and the “Boo” sentiment was custom made using my “Cutaway Alpha Stamp Set“, also from Waffle Flower. For the cloud background I used a stencil I previously created myself from some acetate (check out how I did it on this video) and some purple ink. I used my Caran d’Ache Luminance colour pencils (Prismacolors are hard to come by in Switzerland) to colour in the images in this card, then used a little stump and some baby oil to smooth out the colouring. The stumps and the baby oil really help smooth out those lines without having to inhale all of those Gamsol fumes!

I had previously shared this card on my Instagram and since its now on its way to its recipient, I figured it was about time I shared it here too! If I was making it again, I would probably use the little cobweb stamp to go underneath the “Boo” sentiment instead of scribbling that wriggly line. Still, I’m pretty chuffed with this card. My first ever Halloween one! Make sure to tag me on IG if you’re also making Halloween projects this year. I would love to see what you create!

Until next time!
