Easter Chocolate Egg Tote Bags: Bastel Traum Challenge #63

Hello Bastel Traum friends! And welcome back to another one of our monthly challenges, where you can play with us for a chance to win a 15 chf certificate to the Bastel Traum Online Shop (they ship worldwide!) This month’s challenge will run until 15 April 2018 at 8:45 am GMT+2 and the subject will be “Easter”.

My project for this month’s challenge is a cute little tote bag full of chocolate Easter eggs. I created it using a bunch of Lawn Fawn products, including their Tote Bag Die (BT/LF), Happy Hatchling Die Set (LF), and their Perfectly Plaid Rainbow Paper (BT/LF). The little chick is stuck on to the bag with an action wobbler, so there is also an interactive element to this card!

I’ve made a bunch of these and I plan to give these to a few people who are close to my heart. What is YOUR favourite way to celebrate Easter?

Best in the Mewniverse – Galaxy Background Card

[This post appeared on the Heffy Doodle blog on 31 January 2018, and I’m now republishing it here. Sorry for the delay!]

Hello Heffy Doodlers! Dennice here with a final reminder that today will be your last chance to snap up the free “Mewniverse Stamp Set” which we are shipping out with EVERY and ALL pre-orders of any Release 3 products placed on the Heffy Doodle store.

To create today’s card, I started off by making a watercolour galaxy background (if you’ve never tried this, you totally should! This technique is basically fool-proof!) I then stamped a bunch of kitties on my background using my Versamark embossing ink and covered them with some liquid platinum embossing powder. I did two kitties at a time in order to avoid overlapping them. Then I filled up the smaller gaps left between them by stamping and embossing the little wool ball included in the set. I loved the look of the liquid platinum kitties against my galaxy background. They looked like kitty constellations!

Next up, I die cut a couple of our new word dies “Hey” and “Baby” from some plain, white card stock (by the way, did you know that Lesley herself actually hand-lettered all the word dies in our latest release? How cool is that!) I stacked them on top of each other and pressed them against my Versamark ink pad. Once they were fully covered with this sticky ink, I added a thick layer of that same liquid platinum embossing powder and hit them with my heat tool. I repeated the process a couple of times to give my stacked, die-cut words a nice metallic look.

I then stamped out my sentiment “You’re the best in the whole mewniverse” from the same stamp set on to some plain white card stock. I stamped the first part of the sentiment in black and heat embossed the second half with the same liquid platinum embossing powder. I cut out my sentiment strip with the fabulous “Stitched Strips of Ease” dies and adhered it flat on to my card front. I could then move on to the colouring. I coloured my kitty and basket with my Copics and fussy cut them out leaving that magical little white border that makes them look like die cuts. I used some double sided foam squares to adhere them on to my card and… voilà!

I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s project and that it has reminded you to place your pre-orders quickly to snatch our mewnique Release 3 freebie stamp set today!

Simple Colouring Birthday Card: Bastel Traum Challenge #62

Hello Bastel Traum friends! And welcome back to another one of our monthly challenges, where you can play with us for a chance to win a 15 chf certificate to the Bastel Traum Online Shop (they ship worldwide!) This month’s challenge will run until 15 March 2018 at 8:45 am GMT+2 and the subject will be “Birthday / Party”.

Today’s project is a cutesy scene card I created using the Lawn Fawn “Yay, Kites!” Stamps and Dies, along with the “Big Scripty Words” Stamps and Dies, the “Stitched Hillside Borders” and some “Perfectly Plaid Rainbow” paper for my grass (also from Lawn Fawn) for my grassy hill.

I’ll be honest with you and say I hesitated about whether or not this card was actually Design Team material. In the end I decided it was and here’s why. This was one of the first stamp sets I purchased from the Bastel Traum Shop a couple of years ago. Back at the time I didn’t own any fancy watercolours, Prismacolor pencils or Copic markers. All I had was a supermarket-bought pack of 18 colour pencils. So back in the day I stamped and coloured out my images with those pencils and it was very straightforward. I was starting out in card making and I had no idea about the colour wheel, light and shadow, and how more advanced colouring can help bring images to life. I just coloured these happy little critters for fun, no pressure, no blog posts, nothing. I simply coloured to my heart’s content, die cut and stored them away in a little tin container for lack of a better idea of what to do with them.

I still own that little tin container and I continue to fill it up with images I colour on the go. I was searching through it to find some coloured images which might lend themselves to our challenge this month and found these little guys. So I personally challenged myself to show you guys that I could make a project I was proud of, even if I didn’t really feel very confident about my colouring. The fact of the matter is, practice makes perfect, and not being an expert at a given technique doesn’t mean we can’t have fun or create something beautiful with it.

I hope you will see the same beauty in this project as I see in my early days colouring. I’m still no master at colour pencils (you can head over to my friend Ute’s blog if you’re looking for that kind of magic!) But I am having fun and I hope you are too, whatever your skill level might be!

I look forward to the projects you will share with us this month, whatever the techniques or skill levels they may reflect, because I’m hoping you will have had fun creating and sharing them. That’s what crafting is all about. Until next time!
